BYZANTIUM NOVUM

Provinces of the Empire

Local community in Byzantium Novum:

I. Themes (GR Theme, LA Diocesis) are regional chapters will 16 or more members.
Each diocese is governed by a Duke or Duchess.

II. Provinces (GR Katepanikion; LA Provincia) are local groups with 5-15 members that are part of a theme.
Each province is governed by a president.

III. Colonies (GR Kleisoura; LA Municipium) are local groups with 5-15 members that are not part of a theme.
Each colony is governed by a magistrate.

IV. Counties and Villages. These are informal names for areas administered by Counts and Mayors, respectively.
There are no minimum or maximum populations for counties but villages require a minimum of three members.
